This project for a two storey detached house was built speculatively for resale, following the demolition of an existing old house on the site and was constructed in 140mm timber frame, providing excellent thermal insulation values of U=0.35W/m2k. This was the first time the client had built in timber frame and we clearly demonstrated the advantages of speed in construction and co-ordination of trades against masonry, together with a cleaner site and achieving better energy efficiency.
The accommodation consisted of living room, kitchen / breakfast, study, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a wet room and an integral garage. Under floor heating was installed throughout the ground floor, with radiators upstairs. The external elevations were clad in block work and finished in render, with PVCu windows and doors and the roof finished in concrete pantiles. The NHBC provided building control and a 10 year insurance warrantee.
